Learning to swim is both an essential skill and a lifelong gift that builds confidence and independence. Offering the opportunity for your child to start this amazing aquatic journey at an early age can enhance their water safety and overall quality of life.
Some benefits of swimming include:
Positive exposure - The water is a natural place for children and parents to feel vulnerable or scared. We intend to transform that fear into a positive yet safe environment for our swim families. Respect and understanding of the water are key, with the ultimate goal of safety and happiness.
Enhanced physical wellbeing - Swimming is a skill that lasts a lifetime. Water is both resistant and supportive, offering a great exercise option without the high impact on the body.
Building body balance and awareness - Learning how to balance and relax in the water are essential to swimming, and they also translate to many other activities a child may do outside of the water.
Group Swim Classes are a wonderful way for children to get the individual attention they need while also allowing them to have positive peer interactions. Each class will cover a wide range of skills, all depending on which skill children need to develop next.
Instructors strive to meet swimmers wherever they are in their swimming process. Lessons start out with the most basic skills, building on them in a positive, confident manner. All group classes have a low student-to-teacher ratio so that swimmers get personalized, hands-on instruction.
As parents, the decision to start swim lessons is very specific to individual family priorities, backgrounds, and circumstances. Our rule of thumb is to start swim lessons when you are ready to commit to the process.
While parents might feel unsure about starting the aquatic adventure at a young age, we find that the stresses around swimming tend to become more pronounced as children age. This is why we offer lessons starting at four months old!
If your swimmer hasn’t started lessons yet, don’t worry. We are ready to meet each swimmer wherever they are in the swimming process! It is never too early or too late to begin learning to swim!
The younger the swimmers are when they start this process, the more repetition and consistency are required. As our bodies develop, we adjust to the changes and adapt our balance and coordination to the changes in our body composition. This physical swimming progression works more seamlessly from one stage to the next if you stick with it.
At Nashville Swim Academy, we strive to provide the best environment for each student to build a positive and safe relationship with the water. Our developmental-centered teaching ensures that each student receives enhanced instruction for their individual needs.
We place children in classes based on age and skill level because we find that when with their peers, they tend to be similar in both physical and developmental stages. From Parent & Me classes all the way through competitive stroke development, we have a swim option that will meet the specific needs of each of our students as young as 4-months-old.
During the school year, all classes meet weekly. Accounts are charged on the first of each month for the total number of classes offered that month (taking into consideration any closures for holidays and/or breaks). Parents can access billing information within the Parent Portal as well as update payment information and pay any outstanding balances.
All Intensive Sessions (Spring, Summer, School Year JumpStart and Winter Break) are pay-in-full upon registration.
During our School Year Programming, makeups are available for absences that are recorded in advance in the Parent Portal. Makeups will not be provided for absences without prior proper notice.
During our Intensive Sessions (Winter, Spring, School Year JumpStart and Summer), makeup options are not available.
For the safety of everyone in the pool, all children under the age of 4, even if they are potty trained, must wear a snug-fitting Happy Nappy(™) swim pant, which can be used as a single layer. Happy Nappys(™) are available for purchase in our pro shop. In addition, any swimmer over the age of 4 who falls under any of the following categories may be required to wear appropriately protective clothing to prevent an accident that cause the pool to be closed: questionable bowel control, current medical limitations that might require special attention to the matter, or has shown a tendency to have accidents in the pool.
Once your child is enrolled in a class, you will receive an automated confirmation email which will indicate whether your child is enrolled or waitlisted along with the location, start date, and time. Each policy that you agreed to at the time of enrollment will also be included in this confirmation email. If you have any additional questions after looking over the confirmation email, please contact us at info@nashswimacademy.com.
Shortly after enrollment is processed, a Welcome Email will be sent with helpful information about where to go, what your child needs, and what to expect for the first lesson.
If your child is waitlisted for a class, we will reach out via email to confirm enrollment as soon as an opening becomes available. Once we receive confirmation from you, we will process enrollment and plan on seeing you at the next available class from your enrollment date.
To view the available class options for each level, please click through our School Year Programing portion of our site.
During School Year Programming, your child will remain enrolled in a class and monthly billing will continue until you indicate you want to cancel enrollment or the school year concludes. We require a 30-day written notice to discontinue enrollment with submission of our CANCELLATION FORM. After we receive your cancellation form, we will send an email confirming your student’s drop date.
For all Intensive Sessions (Winter, Spring, School Year JumpStart and Summer), Nashville Swim Academy requires 7-day’s advance notice of the start date of that given session to make a change in enrollment. Changes in enrollment are only an option if we have a waitlist for that slot and can fill the slot with another swimmer.
