Rhys

Coach Rhys is originally from Rockford, Illinois. He is currently studying Commercial Music Songwriting and Production at Lipscomb University.

Coach Rhys learned how to swim when he was 3 years old and started swimming competitively at the age of 6. He has swum almost all of his life. Some of his earliest memories include waking up at 6am for swim meets in Wisconsin and spending time on the pool deck. He was the swim team captain during his senior year of high school. His main events were the 50 and 100 Free, 100 Back and relays. His fastest time for the 50 Free was 23.56.

Coach Rhys has been teaching swimming for about 2 years now, working a bit more than a year with NSA now and at a country club in Rockford as well prior to that.

Outside of swim, Coach Rhys loves playing the guitar. He has been playing for about 7 years now. He also loves to sing and skateboard. "I enjoy jumping down sets of stairs!" He said that he also loves bowling but is "really bad at it".

Coach Rhys is also an animal lover. He has 7 dogs! He has a Brittany Spaniel named Maddie and 6 Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers (Finley, Gustav "Stavi", Savannah, Gibson, Lillibet, and Archibald "Archie"). He also has 3 older brothers named Nicolaus, Evan and Brigham.

We asked Coach Rhys what he enjoyed most about teaching swim lessons and which age group he especially liked to work with, and he said, "I love being able to teach kids something that I love to do. It is also rewarding to see the kids I teach progress! I like working with the older kids (7 and up) because we can work on more technical swimming skills."

Coach Rhys is looking forward to seeing all of the summer swim teams and how all of these awesome kiddos swim!
