FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • WHY SHOULD MY CHILD LEARN TO SWIM?

Learning to swim is both an essential skill and a lifelong gift that builds confidence and independence. Offering the opportunity for your child to start this amazing aquatic journey at an early age can enhance their water safety and overall quality of life.

    Some benefits of swimming include:

Positive exposure - The water is a natural place for children and parents to feel vulnerable or scared. We intend to transform that fear into a positive yet safe environment for our swim families. Respect and understanding of the water are key, with the ultimate goal of safety and happiness.

Enhanced physical wellbeing - Swimming is a skill that lasts a lifetime. Water is both resistant and supportive, offering a great exercise option without the high impact on the body.

Building body balance and awareness - Learning how to balance and relax in the water are essential to swimming, and they also translate to many other activities a child may do outside of the water.

  • WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT FROM SWIM CLASSES?

Group Swim Classes are a wonderful way for your swimmer to get the individual attention they need while also allowing them to have positive peer interactions. Each class will cover a wide range of skills, all depending on which skill your swimmer needs to develop next.

We strive to meet each swimmer wherever they are in their discovery of swimming. We start out with the most basic skills, building on them in a positive, confident manner. During the school year, all group classes are 40-minutes long, once per week, with low student-to-teacher ratios so you know you’re getting personalized, hands-on instruction.

  • WHEN SHOULD CHILDREN START SWIM LESSONS?

As a parent, the decision to start swim lessons is very specific to your individual priorities, background, and circumstances. Our rule of thumb is to start swim lessons when you are ready to commit to the process.

While you might feel unsure about starting the aquatic adventure at a young age, we find that the stresses around swimming tend to become more pronounced as people increase in age. This is why we offer lessons starting at 4-months-old!

If your swimmer hasn’t started lessons yet, don’t worry. We are ready to meet each

swimmer wherever they are in the swimming process! It is never too early or too late

to begin learning to swim! Check out our CLASS FINDER TOOL to decide which

level is right for your child.

The younger a swimmer is when they start this process, the more repetition and consistency are required. As our bodies develop, we adjust to the changes and adapt our balance and coordination to the changes in our body composition. This physical swimming progression works more seamlessly from one stage to the next if you stick with it.

If you start in Parent & Me then take a break for a year or two, your swimmer will come in with very different body composition and developmental stage than the last time they were in the water.

  • WHY CHOOSE NASHVILLE SWIM ACADEMY?

At Nashville Swim Academy, we strive to provide the best environment for each student to build a positive and safe relationship with the water. Our developmental-centered teaching ensures that each student receives enhanced instruction for their individual needs.

From Parent & Me classes all the way through competitive stroke development, we have a swim option that will meet the specific needs of each of our students as young as 4-months-old.

  • DO I HAVE TO PUT MY POTTY TRAINED 3-YEAR-OLD IN A SWIM DIAPER?

For the safety of everyone in the pool all children under the age of 4, even if they are potty trained, must wear at least one non-disposable swim diaper. We recommend using a snug-fitting Happy Nappy brand, which can be used as a single layer. All other products will require a double layer (either a swim diaper with a non-disposable over or two non-disposable swim diapers).

A non-disposable, snug-fitting swim diaper is the best option to prevent content from entering the pool. Non-disposable swim diapers are available for purchase in our pro shop.

In addition, some students who have shown a tendency to have an accident in the pool may be required to wear special clothing for containment (adult size rubber pants). If a child under the age of 4 is found not properly layered, they will be removed from class and allowed to return once in compliance with the policy. Diapers are required for any potty training swimmer who has had an accident in the last 2-months, and for any current medical reasons that might require additional attention to this matter.

  • I JUST REGISTERED, WHAT’S NEXT?

Once you are registered, you will receive a welcome email with helpful information about where to go and what you need for swim.

Once you enroll in a class you will receive a confirmation email. Your confirmation email will indicate whether you are enrolled or waitlisted and your class start date and time. If you have any additional questions after looking over the information from this email, please contact us at info@nashswimacademy.com.

If you are waitlisted for a class, we will reach out to you via email to ask if you want to take a slot once it becomes available. Once we get confirmation from you, we will then process your registration and plan on seeing you at the next available class from your registration date.

  • HOW DO I CANCEL ENROLLMENT?

    School Year Programming Cancelation Policy

During the school year, you hold your slot in a class until you indicate you want to make a change or the school year concludes. We require 30-days written notice to discontinue enrollment.  Please complete our CANCELATION FORM and we will send a confirmation of your drop date. You are responsible for payment for your student's classes whether or not your student attends class until your approved drop day in our system. This charge will be for holding the student's place in that class instead of offering that place to one of the many students on the waiting list. All Enrollments will automatically drop at the conclusion of the school year programming. For the 2023-2024 School Year, enrollments will automatically drop after May 11, 2024.

For all Intensive Sessions, Nashville Swim Academy requires 7-days advance notice of the start date of that given session to make a change in enrollment. Changes in enrollment are only an option if we have a waitlist for that slot and can fill the slot with another swimmer.
